Allegations of Abuse, Family Betrayal, and a Foster Care System That Refuses to Listen
A Missouri mother has come forward with a heartbreaking and urgent plea: “Help my babies get justice.” Her story paints a devastating picture of domestic violence, failed reunification, and what she describes as betrayal—not only by the family courts and Missouri’s child protective services—but by her own family.
While her claims remain allegations, her experience reflects a disturbingly familiar pattern: CPS removing children from protective parents only to place them in environments with even greater dangers.
The Backstory: Domestic Violence and a Failing Safety Net
In July 2023, after enduring months of being the sole provider, caretaker, and emotional anchor for her children, this Missouri mother says she tried to escape an abusive relationship. Her partner, according to her, had spiraled into alcohol and video game addiction while refusing to help with the children. After returning from work one evening, she asked him to watch the kids and dinner so she could shower. Instead, she says he snapped—allegedly attempting to burn her face in front of their children.
Police intervened, and he went to jail.
She thought she and her children were finally on the path to healing. By Thanksgiving, he had been released, and despite her concerns, she allowed supervised contact. After slowly reintroducing overnights, her young son reportedly confided: “Daddy drink and mean mommy.” By December, she allowed him to stay at the house while she and the kids were away. What happened next would change everything.
The Accusation and Alleged Set-Up
On December 13th, her son had a small scratch on his face from her ring—a scratch she says was accidental and minor. However, her ex-partner reported this to Missouri DFS (Department of Family Services). She claims he failed to mention their son had also fallen down the stairs and that nails were sticking out—something her son later tried to explain to investigators. According to her, this was a coordinated effort to frame her and gain leverage.
Despite her explanations and the child’s attempts to clarify what really happened, Missouri DFS allegedly did not listen.
Placed in a Dangerous Foster Home—With Her Sister
What makes this story even more shocking is that the children were placed with her own sister—a woman the mother describes as abusive, negligent, and “mean to her children.” She reports the following concerns:
Allegations of possible sexual abuse in the home
Health hazards and unsafe living conditions
Prior behavior by the sister that should disqualify her from having children in her care
And yet, according to this mother, DFS refuses to act. The children remain in what she describes as a dangerous, toxic environment.
“They Need Me”
In her own words:
“I'm losing hope. I just want my babies. They need me. They are not safe. I know how she is with her own kids. She shouldn't have kids in her care.”
Foster Care Abuse: A National Crisis
Tragically, her story is not an outlier. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, children in foster care are four times more likely to be abused than children in the general population. In many states, foster children suffer silently while red flags are ignored or covered up.
One 2022 report found that over 30% of former foster youth experience PTSD, often higher than war veterans. And according to the National Youth in Transition Database, one in four foster youth become homeless within 18 months of aging out.
Missouri CPS Under Scrutiny
Cases like this fuel rising concerns about Missouri’s CPS (Child Protective Services) and DFS (Department of Family Services). Families across the state have reported:
False or exaggerated claims used to justify removals
Inadequate investigations
Lack of due process
Failure to place children with safe relatives
Retaliation against parents who speak out
Has Missouri DFS lost sight of its mission to protect children? The evidence presented by this mother—and others like her—deserves a serious and thorough public investigation.
A Call for Accountability and Reform
To the mother who wrote this story: we hear you. To others in Missouri and across the country who are afraid to speak up: you are not alone.
The foster care system must be held accountable for the decisions it makes in the name of child safety. Allegations of unsafe foster placements, family alienation, and caseworker manipulation must be investigated—not ignored.
